How to Update Windstar Tax Navigator Software

These steps will outline the procedure for updating Windstar Tax Navigator Software. All subsequent updates should follow the same steps. Please note that there are two stages to this update. The first computer to run the Software update performs its update process on that local machine as well as the share database. All subsequent computers perform only the local Client update and do not change the share data.

  1. Have the Windstar user create a ticket requesting an upgrade which references ticket number 95442 for additional information.
  2. Upon receiving the request the Helpdesk will assign the ticket to and schedule an appointment with Windows Systems Engineer, F&A DTS Technician and Windstar user to facilitate upgrade.

At scheduled time for the first computer to be updated:

  1. The Windows Systems Engineer will add the Windstar user to the local administrators group via GPO
  2. Restart the Windstar client machine to receive the GPO update
  3. The F&A DTS Technician will work with the Windstar user to login under Windstar user's account

  4. The F&A DTS Technician will work with the Windstar user to download and run Tax Navigator Software Update per the Windstar documentation (For example, the F&A DTS Technician may not know where to click in the application to access the update)

    • Note: When faced with the option for "repair" or "remove" during the update, select "repair" to run update
  5. The F&A DTS Technician will restart the computer and work with the Windstar user to confirm the update has completed successfully

  6. Once the update is complete the F&A DTS Technician will contact the Windows System Engineer to have additional rights removed

At scheduled time for the next computer to be updated:

  1. The Windows Systems Engineer will add the Windstar user to the local administrators group via GPO
  2. Restart the Windstar client machine to receive the GPO update
  3. The F&A DTS Technician will work with the Windstar user to login under Windstar user's account

  4. The F&A DTS Technician will work with the Windstar user to download and run Tax Navigator Client Update per the Windstar documentation (For example, the F&A Technician may not know where to click in the application to access the update)

  5. The F&A DTS Technician will restart the computer and work with the Windstar user to confirm the update has completed successfully

  6. Once update is complete the F&A DTS Technician will contact the Windows System Engineer to have additional rights removed
