DRAC 4/5

DRAC stands for Dell Remote Access Card. This card looks just like an Ethernet port and can be found on most Dell server on the back, far left side. The controller has its own processor, memory, battery, network connection, and access to the system bus.

Pre-Setting for DRAC

To access the webpage for the DRAC, you can connect an Ethernet cable to the DRAC and to your laptop. Make sure you change the IP settings on your laptop to manual and make the new IP for your computer: 192.168.0.x (x= anything outside from 1, 255 and 120). After placing that IP on your computer, type into a browser: 192.168.0.120. This should get you to the login screen for the DRAC management.

The default admin username / password is: root / calvin (no caps for the password)

Once inside, you can change any new settings you want from creating new usernames to setting up the new IP for accessing the webpage.

Set up DRAC through network

Once you are ready to place the DRAC on the network, you must talk to networks and get an IP for vlan 110 (which should be the DRAC vlan). Once that is set up, your computer that you use on campus will need a static IP which will then give access to the DRAC card. Once the static IP has been assigned, you have three options to be able to connect to the DRAC card which includes website and ssh. A preferred method of connecting to the DRAC card will be given at a later time/date.

Username and passwords will be given through the DRAC card itself. Creating and deleting of those account need to be done by an administrator of the DRAC network.

Static IP request

The static IP’s will not just be handed out to anyone and will need to be approved by TSS management. There will be no more than 2 people from a department outside from TSS employees to receive static IP’s.

If both employees who have the static IP’s are gone, TSS and Operations can help out with any request.

Punishments

The DRAC technology isn’t to be taken lightly and should only be used when on campus but want to turn on/off servers without coming into the server room. Any user abusing this system will be removed from the DRAC login and their static IP taken away. TSS management will give the punishment length as seen fit.
