Installing Cisco Jabber

DO NOT USE JABBER FOR 911 CALLS

Notes:

  • A VPN connection is required for Jabber to connect to OU’s Phone Network

  • OU Only supports Cisco Jabber on Windows and MAC. No Mobile platforms are currently supported

  • Jabber is a licensed product, and requires a purchased license for each user to work. To obtain a license, please submit a request to [email protected]

Install via GUI

  1. Download Cisco Jabber install file here: https://www.webex.com/downloads/jabber.html

    1. Note: Oakland University does not support the iOS or Android Jabber apps.
  2. Complete the Jabber installation on your computer. At the end of the installation process, make sure the Start Cisco Jabber box is checked, then Finish.
  3. When the Cisco Jabber window appears
  4. Enter your OU email address
  5. Jabber will prompt you to verify a certificate to proceed, select Accept.
  6. Enter your password when prompted for your credentials.
    1. Note: it is normal for the username to drop @oakland.edu at this step

Note, if you receive an error about not being able to automatically detect server settings, try these steps :

  1. At the login screen, select Advanced Settings.
  2. For Account Type, select “Cisco Communications Manager 9 or later”
  3. For Login Server, select “Use the following server” and enter 141.210.3.10 (IP address for CUCM01) and Save.
  4. Enter your OU email address
  5. Enter your password when prompted for your credentials.

Install via Command Line in Windows

Download Cisco Jabber install file here: https://www.webex.com/downloads/jabber.html

  1. Open a command prompt
  2. Navigate to the directory where Jabber was downloaded
  3. Run the following command
    • msiexec.exe /i %USERPROFILE%\Downloads\CiscoJabberSetup.msi CLEAR=1 AUTHENTICATOR=CUCM TFTP=141.210.3.10 CCMCIP=141.210.3.10 PRODUCT_MODE=phone_mode UPN_DISCOVERY_ENABLED=false

    • Note: This method assumes the installer is located in the Downloads directory. If the MSI is located elswhere, replace %USERPROFILE%/Downloads with the correct location.

  4. Follow all installation prompts
  5. Enter your OU email address
  6. Jabber will prompt you to verify a certificate to proceed, select Accept.
  7. Enter your password when prompted for your credentials.
