How to Perform a Windows Update
This document outlines how to perform a Windows Update on your Microsoft Windows PC. Microsoft frequently releases software that fixes problems, glitches, and security holes that are found in the Windows operating system. It is vital that your computer always be kept up-to-date by always having these system updates.
Step 1: Connect To Windows Update
- Close all open applications that are running on your system.
- Open up Internet Explorer.
- Click on the Tools menu, and select Windows Update.

- The Windows Update website should appear. If you receive a Security Warning dialog, click Yes to proceed.
Step 2: Downloading Software Updates
- On the right-hand side of the screen, click on the link titled Scan for Updates.

- Your computer will begin searching for available updates to download. If any updates are found, you will see a Review and install updates link. Click it to continue.

- You will be given a list of software that will be installed. Click on the Install Now button to proceed with the download.

- If you receive a license agreement dialog, click Accept.
- The update(s) will now be downloaded and installed. You can see the progress of this in the Windows Update – Web Page Dialog window.

- When the downloading and installation is finished, you will be brought to a summary page of all the software you selected, with an Installation Complete notification. You may be required to restart your computer.

- It is recommended you repeat this process to make sure there are no more updates available for your computer.
